My 100 does basically the same thing. 4th gear does whine a lot, and reverse has some whine to it. I haven't checked the fluid level in it(I'm about to restore it). My parts book shows straight-cut gears in the tranny, which by their nature are noisier than helical-cut, herringbone, etc. gears. Hopefully, someone else can shed a little more light on this. . .
