In the '60s Tractor Supply Company sold a kit with a high speed forth gear. It contained new gears for second, third, and fourth. Second was speed became what third was before. Third gear equaled the old fourth speed and a new fourth speed was between the old forth and fifth.
My dad installed the kit into his '43 H. It ruined the tractor as a tillage tractor because of the loss of the old second gear speed. He ended leaving the loader on it all the time. Field work with it became mostly cutting and raking hay. It was a good tractor for hauling the loads of bales because of the faster fourth gear.
