That was sure a bad design to have the input shaft of those units be the external bearing support for the unit. I rebuilt mine on my 350D and had to replace the input shaft as it was very badly worn. I priced one at CaseIH and at the time I think they first quoted a price of over $300 and then after checking found out it was not available. I had a machine shop buddy fix mine. This was another story in itself. First they tried welding it up, but the shaft was so bad it warped. Then they made a new one. However, they located one hole slightly off which resulted in the unit pulling to one side all the time. I had to take it back apart and then discovered the problem. Got that fixed and now it works fine. Roger
