The shaft only comes out the back. There is a shoulder on the shaft that bears against the inner bearing race which keeps it from going forward. The outer race of the bearing bears against the housing. The bolt on the inside keeps the shaft from coming out. The bolt retains the gear and the bearing on the shaft. The bearing rests against the housing so the shaft can't come out as long as the retainer bolt is in the end of the shaft. If you take this apart, don't try to take the bolt out and then drive out the shaft. You must take the gear off first and remove the woodruff key. The key will catch on the bearing and prevent the shaft from coming out if you try to drive the shatt out. I don't believe any of this is press fit. Take a look at the parts diagram in the parts catalog and you can figure it out.
