Hi Terry; International made the engines. Very interesting, the way they start on gasoline and switch to diesel when warm. Something to be aware of with the engines: If the tractor is run long enough to get good and warm it needs to be allowed to idle long enough to cool down before shutting off lest the head crack. Very expensive to replace! Check for indications of a cracked head before buying. I have asked myself the same question about their popularity. It seems to me they should be of as great interest as the John Deere D but like many other engineereing achievemnents in our history there isn't a whole lot of appreciation for them. Too often that has resulted in most of the examples of a design being scrapped because the prevailing view is "There are so many of them around this one isn't significant. We don't need to save it." If you have a chance to buy one, I think you ought to do it. I was lined up with one earlier this year but had to back away because the house started falling apart and it seemed better to fix that with the money I had set aside for the WD9. Still look at the pictures . . . Fred
