I could be wrong on this, but from the limited number of them I've seen, it looks to me like the H-4 magnetos have the square drive lugs. The J-4 (Cub) magnetos have the round lugs. (I'm willing to be corrected on this.) The Cub magneto has a much smaller lag angle (13) than the H-4 (35). That is a big difference and may be the explanation of the problem you had with the B.
