The long plate was used with mounted cornpickers. We had one sitting around and dad just told me what it was used for, I thought it was for moving flight elevators, very limited turn angle with those. Some for the front are bent down to line up better with the little wagons of those days, I have one of thes on my f460. Another advantage is the plate was much cheaper to replace than the drawbar.
