That is a good point soybeanjoe.
If you take the plate back off,flip it over and check the holes that the bolts pass thru.If they ARE NOT flush with the sealing surface,they need to be made that way !!!!! with the sealing surface STILL face up,take a small hammer(ball peen)to the bolt holes,backing the holes up on the botton side with a small socket not much bigger than the bolt holes.(A piece of small pipe or tubing works well,also.)
Gently tap the holes flush with the sealing surface.(stamped automatic transmission pans have this same issue ALOT !!!! Like on a Turbo 350)
