Chris, sometimes it can be very difficult to do a vector analysis in a collision. If you are in second gear and the snowplow hits some buried immovable object, the shock and rebound can do some surprising damage. Cubs, even with chains, have very little traction. I have a couple of neighbors who can only push snow 3 or 4 feet and then have to back up and ram the fresh pile. Fortunatly, they know better than to use 3rd gear. I use a 504 with chains, loaded tires, and ten wheel weights. The loader frame goes back to the rear axel housings and has four other mounting points. It carries a large snow bucket in the winter. I only use first gear, with and w/o the TA, at about 700-800 rpm when the bucket is down. I don't think that I have ever spun a wheel in the fifteen years I have used it. I don't think there is a drift anywhere in New England that will stop it.
