David G - To reply, no there are no instructions. I bought the largest dipstick I could find at the farm & home, I think it was a replacemdnt for a Ford 8N. Re-threaded one end of a 1/4" x 3" pipe nipple to give it straight threadds, and cut the other end off. Drilled and tapped the boss, threaded the nipple in, stuck the dips;tick in, and it all works. I had to do this, bcause to be honest, i checked my petcocks once in t he spring. I just thought they were awkward.
