In regards to the ballast resistor. DO NOT INSTALL A COIL WITHOUT ONE!!!! THE COIL WILL EXPLODE!!! I am not kidding or exagerating. I found out the hard way, hot oil missed me by a milimeter. I thought I'd be smart, more volts to primary(input) equals more KV to the plugs(secondary). I was right. Most right I've ever been in my life. I had so much spark that the tractor(300U) actually ran with the dist. cap dangling at the end of the plug wires, no where near the distributor. IT WAS RUNNING!!2000rpm. After scratching my head for a minute I leaned over and looked into the cap (from below) and I could see four sparks emitting from the center electrode simultaneausly(sp?) to all four outer electrodes. Talk about a wasted spark system, Who cares about timing. Five minutes after I shut it off(and left the key on) KABOOM!!! Very close call as my head was only inches away from the coil only a few minutes earlier. Next day bought another new coil(accel supercoil) installed it WITH resistor and my tractor runs beautifully, lesson learned. Be careful. Paul Vance
