A healthe 6v battery would be easiest. The coil in the regulator that is designed to latch the gen to the battery (cutout) is set for 6 volt operation. It may also be damaged, there are more than one winding involved in its construction. It will have issues with 8 volts untill adjusted for latching voltage, and unlatching discharge current. Again least trouble is a 6 volt batt, with good heavy cables of 00gauge. Jim
