Being an old refinery maintenance engineer I can assure you that copper is indeed compatible with gasoline and other fuels. It also will work harden and fracture under vibration and should not be used for fuel lines for safety reasons. It may last a long time but it is still a safety hazard. A short piece of copper on the end of a "rubber" fuel line is OK because the hose will absorb the vibrations. Old rusty fuel lines are usually just gunked up with fuel deposits and can be cleaned. In any event, a restored tractor will not have water in the fuel again so steel is an excellent material. I feel like I have more vapor lock problems with neoprene hose fuel lines thantractors with steel fuel lines. Any other ideas on that?
