Hi Jeff, I have found that a lot of the modern day seals being sold, do not match exactly in width with the older seals that came out of the tractors. Most of the oil seals used in older tractors were supplied with heavy metal collars on both sides of the seal, and very thick, double lip sealing areas. The seals made today are made out of more advanced materials than were available in "the old days", and to keep inventory costs down, most places do not carry all of the available width, and lip configurations, that are available from the manufacturer's. If the seal the dealer or parts supplier offers you is of the same shaft, and bore size, chances are that it will work for your application. If your supplier cannot offer you a seal that matches yours exactly and you are not comfortable with what they offer, then try a supplier that specializes in oil seals and maybe bearings as well, My .02......Tom
