IH 300 Utility Hard To Shift

Hello All-

Recently became proud owner of IH 300 Utility that I inherited from my uncle bought new in 1956. Since getting the tractor with a little TLC tractor now will start with one crank with hand crank and runs smooth, (not preferred method starter now works fine.) The tractor is very hard to shift. The Tourque Amplifier is not operational. I remember him telling me that it was two expensive to repair. At this point in his life he no longer used the tractor for hard work as he had for decades bailing hay. After some research I have read that this may be the cause of the hard shifting. I would appreciate all input on this issue. I have attempted the adustments to T/A as instructed in manual with no change. Looking forward to your responses.
