I knew what oil is supposed to be in there, and how much, and I put it there myself. What I didn't know is if that shaft went straight into the reservoir that the petcock goes into. With the knowledge that it does, it's obvious that the previously correct oil level is no longer correct, and the trouble is deeper than an external shaft seal.
I have not seen much in 50 years that I couldn't do. I haven't tried brain surgery, but I'm young!! I think I have another one of these pumps that I can "practice" on, so I guess my questions would be, am I going in to just replace seals? Can I get parts? Are special tools necessary? etc.
