Kendall - You're right on! A shorted diode or a bad regulator inside the alternator wired up per my diagram will cause the battery to go down while sitting idle. Check by removing the ground cable from the battery and see if the battery stays up. If it does, the problem's in the alternator. If the battery still goes down it's time for a new battery. Bob M
