We had the unfortunate experience of learning about the dangers of handcranks last summer just prior to a planned show attendance. Instead of loading and heading to the show, we ended up spending from 4pm to 11pm at the hospital getting a broken arm/wrist set and mended. I like Harold H.'s comment. Some tractors like our 1932 F-20 SN FA1087 don't have a battery. I am more inclined to pull start my tractors when necessary, but we have crank started them since this accident--getting back on the horse I guess. I'm glad you all have raised this issue of SAFETY, and the need for all of us involved with vintage tractors to remember to think and practice safety. Safe loading and hauling is discussed in a very chilling article by Albert Duroe (p20-22) in the Sept/Oct 1998 edition of the HPOCA magazine. He described how he spend 17 days in the hospital, had 2 surgeries, and 8-10 weeks with a walker as a result of an accident while loading his Cletrac F for the 6/98 Charles City Iowa show. This gentleman recommends loading a tractor reversely and with a winch onto your trailer.
