Lots of those old M's have more hp than they carried out of the factory. I've got a '49 that has the oversized sleeves and higher compression pistons which has run that way for many years, most under heavy farm use. The only other change to it was an improved governor package and tweaking the rpms up some. They are tough old beasts. Depending on what sleeve/piston package is installed, there may also be some upgrades in the distributor that came with it. This can often push hp over 50. If you're gonna work it hard, I can't see that you need to go into a different manifold or carb. If you intend to play at the tractor pulls.....that's another game entirely.
