The W.F.Hebard Company of Chicago built their A-14 and then their A-21 models using IH components, mainly FarmAll A, from about 1940 to 1950 when they were bought out by BUDA, the engine company, of Harvey, IL. BUDA then built them as BUDA-HEBARD Shop Mules from 1950-1953 when Allis-Chalmers bought BUDA. The suits at A-C obviously had no sence of humor and made them cease production of tractors with IH engines and drivelines. The Hebard Mulift (forklift) became the basis of the A-C forklift line albeit with Buda power. Actually the A-14/21's used IH U-2 power plants, hence the stubby gas tank and room to mount the center steering (usually Ross) column. Many of these served in the military during WW2, "the Big One" , some Navy ones on aircraft carriers. After the war Municipalities bought them for street sweepers & sidewalk snow plowing (in the North). There were other Shop Mule models some smaller, some larger but the A-14/21's were the only ones to use tractor sheet metal. Some with U-2 engines (A's), some with U-4 (FarmAll H) and some with 233 ci, 6 cyl IH truck engines. They also mixed and matched tractor and truck driveline components. Hey Kev, What show and do you know whose Shop Mule that was there?

It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership,
