Ok, I went out and checked the cable. Took it loose at both places and it turns freely on both ends when turned by hand. I also checked it by hooking it up at the drive on the oil pump, and started the engine. With the engine running, tte cable did not move at the other end where it attaches to tach.
Does this mean that the old Tach should work? Does it mean that the gears aren't lined up in the drive part on the oil pump?
What is the best way to fix this problem without having to purchase a new "drive" assembly??
