I've used NAPA, Wix, Baldwin, Fleetguard, Purolator, and probably other brands of filters on these engines. I've never had an issue with any of these. I've probably only used a "genuine" IH/CIH filter once or twice on these engines.
Some come with gaskets, some don't. Don't turn down a quality filter for lack of a gasket, and don't use one of questionable quality because it comes with one.
