Oh - and that plate stays in place - I can see the seal there - it's that ring of thin metal. But the seal itself is probably 3/4" thick.
As I say, a bit tough to pull out - depending on how you do it, you'll probably destroy it pretty completely puling it out - but that's fine. No advantage to being gentle with it.
