On mine the manifold pipe had a flat surface. In most all cases, O-ring grooves will be in only one surface. Be careful when bolting up the manifold that you don't overtorque the bolts and strip out the threads in the aluminum pump housing. I had to put helicoils in my pump because the previous owner had stripped out the threads.
