Im unfamiliar with the tractor butttttttttttt the older Detroit Two Cycle Diesels ALL HAD BLOWERS thats how they operated as a two cycle engine. When the piston was at the bottom of the cylinder the blower forced air under pressure into the cylinders and out the then opened valves to purge out the exhaust gas and re fill the cylinder with clean fresh air.
The ones Ive seen in older smaller tractors are like the 2-53 or maybe a 4-71 etc. The first number being the number of cylinders and the second number the cylinders displacement. Big trucks used a 4-71 or a 6-71 (in the old busses) and later they made V 6's like a 6V71 and V8's like 8V 71 (318) and eventually an 8V 92 before they got out of the two cycle business. When I was in the trucking business we called them screaming (and also leaking lol) Detroits due to the high pitched whine sound and the fact they ran at high RPM since they didnt have the torque of a long stroke engine.......
