Oh don't remind me of them old days of the Detroits . First encounter with them was in the construction field then in the trucking industry then in the oil field. spend 8-10 hours on a old Le Turno (sp) pan Modle C with a 6-71 with three 2 - 71 exhaust manifolds and straight pipes on it foot on the floor all day . You could hear them from five miles away , the owner believed that you gained hp. with no mufflers and not one piece of equipment had a muffler and if it only came with one exhaust outlet from the factory he would have us make up and extra one or two outlets and add more pipes. Two stacks on the D6's two on the D7's and three on the D8's Three on the A/C HD19's Even the shovels and cranes had two or three exhaust pipes. Then came the Coal hauling days with the old 238's and 318's all ya did was shift gears as they had no real power and ya had to keep them screaming qand at the end of the day ya just dumped a gallon of oil in them .
