I took off that retaining plate and pulled out the driven-gear into which the cable inserts. (I wasn't pulling hard enough on the cable, and I did get it loose from its gear once out.
I can't see the driving gear- too much wet grease in there, but I put my finger in, and if I was a betting-man, I'd agree that the driving-gear has a problem.
This is my FIL's 450, and I'm replacing the wiring harness. I saw the broken tach cable when I took off the instrument panel and it's hood. If I were to ask him, he'd say not to bother, but while I have it off, it'd be my preference to fix it (just me, I guess), but I don't want to get into a jackpot. If I separate the housing at #3 in my picture, will I be able to replace the driving-gear without special-equipment or getting myself into furthur problems? Or would I have to go deeper than that?
