If you absolutely MUST do this... connect the polarity as Red says, but consider putting the positive connection to the starter terminal instead of the battery. It's possible to EXPLODE a 6volt battery by running 12 volts into it. Safety goggles are a good idea. There were several posts a while back on one of the other forums (perhaps Tool Talk?) on this, and it was the opinion of many that jumping a 6 volt system with 12 volts is a dangerous thing to do.
