I just got a '48 M. It has an electric starter, magneto, and generator. Started fine before the sale and the day I got it. Had to drive home with lights on. Barely started next day, not at all day after that. Battery metered 6.01 volts and took a 6-amp/hour charge for several hours to gain to 6.58 volts. Now it starts. I think I have a couple of problems: 1. Battery is NAPA 7024. They say it's six volts. Terminal are located diagonally from one another. 2. The ampmeter read backwards (?) before I bought it. Now it reads +20 when lights are on 3. System is NEGATIVE ground. This does not agree w/ Bob M's schematics or what others are telling me.Besides that, the starter works. Shouldn't it fail or go backwards if wired wrong? 4. I need starting ability in MN winters for snowplowing. Otherwise, I don't mind the magneto ignition or 6 volt sysytem. I just need a proper schematic (is magneto the same as coil just minus that part of the circuit?) and how to test the generator/regulator with a meter. I have the Bob M.(thanks Bob) schematic for a stock H. Thanks, Jim Thanks for the help
