Thanks folks. The original generator number is 1101355 8J30. It has no regulator, just a cutout mounted on the top. I know that alternators produce more current and work reliably, but I just can't like the look of them on my old Farmalls. I like the way a generator looks like it was meant to be there. As to reliability are there more problems with the cutout type than those fitted with a regulator? Some Lucas generators with cutout only could be a pain, but the regulated ones very rarely go wrong. The original on our first Farmall M finally needed a rebuild after fifty years service.
