It seems strange to me that the pulley never did bottom out when it began to rub against the inside of the seal (metal part). The seal face matches where the old one was, and is oriented with the lip out like all oil seals. The crank was ground, new bearings (0.0015"clearance), and everything replaced or renewed. I'll replace the seal, install the pulley, and check the measurement you have. If I get a good oil seal contact and the pulley aligns correctly with the gen pulley, I should be okay (I hope), even if the pulley doesn't bottom out.
