The engines closest to the 263 in the IH truck line are the Silver Diamond ['50 to around '55 or so], Black Diamond [but only the 220, 240, and 264...the BD 282 and BD 308 are closer in design to the old Blue Diamond line of engines], and the BG 221, 241, and 265 engines used up through '68.
The Silver Diamond engines are all "straight-valve" engines, and use a narrower valve cover than the "tilt-valve" engines. Black Diamond engines could be either straight-valve OR tilt-valve engines. A straight-valve head seemed more prone to dropping exhaust valves than the tilt-valve engines, but that's only what I've been told. And a straight-valve head on an engine with tilt-valve pistons will yield around 12.5 or 13 to 1 compression with no other changes, according to the experiences in mix-and-match of one member of the OldIHC.org discussion boards.
But how that compares to what effect you get when swapping one of the truck heads onto the ag block, I really can't say, as I never got the chance to try it.
