I don't know what kind of ammeter your tractor has, but if it is like the one on my 300, I doubt that there is anything wrong with it that would affect the operation of the tractor.
The one on my 300 has a piece of aluminum for a conductor completely through the ammeter. If it were not conducting , I think you would see why.... as in burned up melted globs
