12 V or not

I have a 52 Cub on which the generatior does not charge. I have checked it out aas posted on the board, but get no charge. I am thinking about puting an alternatior on it and converting to 12 volt. I thinkI can get hold ofa small alternator off a Geo. What I would liketo know, does this hurt the value much? I use the tractor to push snow and for odd-jobs in the summer... It is not a show tractor but is in good shape. Thanks. Roger
