If it is still on 6 volts, the problem is finding a good heavy solenoid (magnetic switch actually). Most are made for 12 volts and don't have heavy enough contacts to handle 6 volts. We had plenty of problems with them from the factory on the 300 and 400 series tractors until they went to 12 volts on 50 series. The biggest problem with the foot operated switch is that it does not push straight on the button therefore binding the switch. I reworked a lot of those in several different ways to over come that problem even when they made good switch's. There is a safety issue also as not being controlled with a key switch, little kids can operate that starter real easy with a push button control.
