As far as the brake I see no connection to pump replacement. If the pump sounds like it it sucking air like low fluid, plugged filter, I would guess one of two things. First, he put in a larger than original pump, second, he didn't get a new suction tube or damaged or misadjusted the seal on tube between pump and housing. Every body wants more oil flow and the 656 has all it can handle with stock pump unless you add the after market filter extension which helps. Now, I will a add, the gears take a wear pattern and the pump is driven off lower pto gear so that would (I assume have not been replaced. Lots of growly, noisey 656 tractors in the country. Also, there are different gears and pumps used as IH changed the gear ratio of pump, used a larger pump and slowed it down to reduce noise levels so things get kind of mixed up. A flow rater test on pump would show up any areation problem.
