When installing a 8 volt battery in a 6 volt system, you are supposed to adjust the cut out voltage to about 8.8 volts where it closes, and the voltage regulator to about 9.5 operating voltage. You need a good volt meter and know which screw does what to do it . I did quite a few many years ago but it never was a very successful conversion. With today's higher cold crank voltage batteries it is even less desirable in my opinion. When you work at a dealership one often has to do what the customer or owner wants and not what the mechanic thinks.
