H Coil Blazing Hot and Other Wiring Questions

I am restoring a '46 H for a gentleman and am having trouble with a few things. First off, the tractor is set up for 6 Volt, however, it has an 8 Volt battery (specifications of owner). Tonight, I was finishing up on the wiring, or what he would let me do and noticed the coil was too hot to touch during trying to start. He has the kill wire going to the (+) terminal and the wire to the distributor to the (-) terminal on the coil. As for the wiring, I didn't have any say on this although it wasn't the way I took it off (was 8 volt then as well). I have got a scematic telling me where things go which is also the way I took things off (us college kids take great notes), but here is what is hooked up. *Generator A* to Voltage Regulator *Gen* terminal. *Gen F* to *VR F* terminal. *VR L* terminal doesn't have a wire going to it at all. *VR Bat* terminal to ammeter. However, my diagram says that the wire that is currently tied back goes from the *Generator F* to the light switch. Are all the wires done correctly or am I working with a few guys who really don't know what they are doing? I have tried to do things the right way, but its one of those things "there's the right way, the wrong way, and my way; and you sure as heck best not use the right or the wrong." I am frustrated with this already and am ready to tell the gentleman to find someone else to finish it if he won't let me do it right. Somebody please help. Thank
