I have been trying to run down a couple of issues on my Farmall 656 D. I lubed and adjusted the shifter - what a difference, particularly after I figured out that a previous owner had removed the spring, ball bearing detent mechanism. No wonder it was always hard to find gears.
I also replaced the fuel gauge/temp cluster.
The wiring is a mess - old and frayed with lots of splices. It has gotten bad enough that the voltage drop between positive lead to the push to start switch, through the safety switch to the starter drops to around 8 volts and the starter drags.
Couple of questions:
1. I am not finding the oil pressure sending unit on the motor or the manual. Where is it?
2. How is the quality of the new wiring harnesses from Case/IH? I replaced one on a Ford 860 with a new, Tisco harness and it was junk.
3. I bought a block heater that is to be installed in a welch plug/freeze plug. The plugs on the 282 are different that what I am used to seeing - cups, rather than domes. Is the correct or does this heater more properly belong in one of the same tapped/plugged holes that are used for the water temp gauge probe?
