I just got through refurbishing the three valves on my 400. To reseat the garter springs I used the end of a tapered funnel I cut off to the same diameter as the end of the valve the spring slipped onto. You work the spring into the retainer slot while slowly pushing the two down the funnel piece untill the retainer slips int place. Worked like a charm!
