That just mite be the problem does your gen have three brushes . And is the reg on top of the gen or on a bracket below the gen as they do take different regs. There is a Delco Remy# on the back of the gen and you need the correct reg for that gen. There are two regs listed for that series and you do need to have the correct one or you have a problem. Simple test with engine running ground the field on the gen if that shows charge the reg is at fault. If it doesent charge the gen is bad. Does your lite sw have hi charge position. And does the sw have four positions. All componets need to have a good ground all the way to the lite sw.
