I agree with carb float + choking. My float was sticking both open and closed, so being the newbie I am I replaced the float needle and seat (about 5 dollars in parts). First time I put the gas to it it leaked a little. That got me nervous, but I started it (make sure magneto is on if so equipped), which for my M is crank for 1/2 second, choke for 1/2 second, and it's running. Now it starts well in Minnesota 20 degrees. They guy I bought mine from recommended a choking technique like I described. I am no expert, the others can tell you more, this is my nod to their comments. I also replaced my mag switch and started, both that would stick on when you didn't want them to. Each was about 13 dollars from IH. Now I will be replacing the mag switch with a DPDT one to allow for the Bob M. (my hero) 12 volt conversion. Jim
