The original ground WAS one of the bolts that held the belt pulley assembly. 1/2 - 13 if memory is correct. The original ground was an insulated cable not a strap. Make up your own cable with welding cable or heavy duty battery cable from NAPA. While you are at NAPA get a battery cable lug with a 1/2 hole in it. If you ground to a starter bolt you will need a lug with a 1/2 inch hole as well unless it is a late SM with the three bolt starter.
