Most likely your 1586 problems were due to a previous owner having twisted the smoke screw in until it broke off, then running it hard and fast for years and years.
A 1086 will have similar reliability problems if treated the same way. You can get close to 200HP out of a turboed 414 pretty easy, and that will tear a 10's rear end up given enough time.
Unfortunately you always can't tell how bad a tractor has been beat just by looking at it. Even just a good steam cleaning can hide a lot of sins.
