Ahh, no , it would be stuck in high range. From your explanation I read into, maybe incorrectly, the tractor will not move when the hydraulics are not working, is that correct. Well, high range, TA lever forward is hydraulically activated so if you have no hydraulics you will not have high range. And if your low range is worn out the tractor will not move when you have no hydraulics because high range requires fluid to lock up the TA high range clutch pack. If your TA low range was not worn out the tractor will move without any hydraulics at all. As I indicated, the low range is mechanically driven with a sprag. A sprag is a one way clutch (like used in a solenoid activated starter drive). So, if it is worn out it just slips, no drive. When you say froze up I take it to mean you have not power steering or power brakes also. As the mcv hydraulic pump is hydraulics for the tractor controls, steering, TA, brakes, clutch booster if it has one and lubrication of power train, when it is not working for what ever reason, you have no hydraulic assisted controls. Your aux hydraulics like hitch and rear outlets may still work as they are a separate pump but draw through same filter so might not work either. Depends on what the problem actually is. I would speculate that the TA lever is locked in the direct, high, position because the low side is worn out. The TA (torque amplifier) is just a two speed, shift on the go addition in front of a gear drive transmission. It is a wear item, just like a clutch of any kind so they "wear out". Lot depends on the use it gets and maintenance items like oil changes etc. Haven't cured any of your problems but hope I helped you understand a little better how things work.
