Sounds as if you have a short to ground somewhere. If you have a test meter, disconnect the non-grounded terminal from the battery, and check the resistance between the disconnected terminal and ground (the frame of the tractor or the grounded terminal of the battery) with the ignition off. Should over-range the meter, which would blow my short-to-ground theory - in this case make sure you have a good ground contact for your meter. If the meter doesn't over-range, you probably have a bad ignition switch, but the problem might be at the starter solenoid or switch (depending on which you have on your M). Try disconnecting one or other of the wires branching out downstream of the non-grounded terminal and check the disconnected wire's resistance to ground. If it over-ranges the meter, the problem is in another branch. Keep poking around and you should be able to localize the problem. Good luck, hope this helps.
