Slip in direct drive = T/A clutch slipping.
In T/A slip = ramp and roller assembly not locking the T/A carrier from spinning.
Also will add that you can remove the linkage pins from the T/A clutch operating shaft and see if it still slips in direct drive. That's just a check to make sure they don't have the T/A clutch linkage adjusted wrong before replacing the clutch. If slipped for a while it may still need replaced though. Also check for oil leaking out 2 weep holes in the bottom of the center housing. May indicate possible oil on the clutch.
