Hello,
I have a '73 656 diesel utility w/standard transmission. In one of my costly forgetful moments, I neglected to put the dipstick back into the transmission after using my post pounder. Oh, and it rained on/off for a few days before I found that the oil filler tube was open. I am sure water got into the system, I just don't know how much.
The good news (if there is any!) is I didn't start the tractor. I didn't want the water pumped through the entire system.
So, here's what I'm going to do:
1. Drain the oil from the system using the 2 drain plugs in the transmission below. (I'm going to change the hydraulic filter too because I needed to do that anyway).
2. Since I did not start the tractor, I don't think I need to drain the hydraulic housing, just the transmission because water settles to the bottom and the filler tube on the transmission was the only source of contamination.
3. Then, I'm going to add new hydraulic fluid and get on with my life.
Any opinions on whether or not this should be sufficient in removing most if not all the water in the system?

I’d probably plowed about 3000 acres (in my head anyway) by the time they found me. This is where my love for tractors started and has only gotten worse in my tender 50 yrs on this “green planet”. I’m par
