Somone broke a tap in one of my water jacket bolt holes. After scratching my head for 6 months I had my dad flip the switch on an old buzz box welder. While dad operated the switch I guided a small diameter 6011 electrode into the hole. This worked to burn the tap out. The hole was a blind hole so I guessed how deep to go and got lucky. After knocking out the slag, I drilled to a larger size hole and drove in a brass insert. The insert was made from a compressed air hose end and had ridges to lock into the inside of a rubber hose. The insert was slathered in silicone sealer before driving it into the block. The reason for this was because the original hole was located too close to the edge of the casting and had rusted through. After the insert was installed it was easy to tap the hole in the center of the insert to the original size. This repair has held for six months so far!
