Notjustair, Told my sons Not to "quick shift" as it's an old tractor, not a sports car! Couldn't get shifter moved to reverse so I ended up taking the shifter out and lining up the rails. Thanks for your suggestions and I hope mine last for years not months & months but I kinda doubt it as it's worn.
